I’ve been using iCloud for my primary email since 2009 and had no issues, there are a handful of features like server-side rules, junk filters and aliases that are quite nice, and knowing (at one time intimately) the levels of privacy that you are afforded brings a lot of peace of mind. If you decide to switch down the road you can export your existing messages through a client such as Mail.app or Outlook and import them into any other Exchange or IMAP Account.

Short of registering your own domain the iCloud mail service is on par with all the other free options out there.

Plus there is siri integration which is useful when driving.Īpple Mail's spam filtering is also spot on and effective.

I talk about search a lot as search is easily the most used feature in mail, it's how you pull up information and apple mail makes it easy to filter by attachments, senders and the like.Īpple's ecosystem also has many benefits, like dragging a mail message to a folder provides you a nice easy to open copy of it, dragging a mail message to your reminders will create a to-do that links directly to the mail message. Searching mail through is also usably fast. I effortlessly pull up email while speaking to clients. I've never bothered to use folders because search is that good. I receive a lot of email (around 100-200 a day with reasonably large attachments) and searching mail in the MacOS mail app has always been the best way to find email, it's very fast regardless of your mailbox size. (Some will offering import tools as well.)

Many online clients are also able to check 3rd party email, effectively allowing you to merge your mail services. Mail portability is an issue with every imap service, since they're inherently server side - however if you change in the future there is nothing stopping you from having two accounts in your email software. I have used iCloud mail in a business setting for 8 years and I will continue using it because it is good, I've not experienced any significant downtime issues in that time.
